This is essential driver training as laid down by the RSA in Ireland. This article is meant to clarify any confusion concerning Reduced EDT driving lessons and who can apply for them. What are Reduced EDT Driving Lessons?
If you are from a nation where there is no particular agreement for exchanging driver’s licenses, there is a unique training program in Ireland known as “reduced EDT.” This class teaches you the necessary skills for driving safely in Ireland. Instead of the typical 12 lessons, you’ll enjoy six one-hour lessons. These lessons teach you how to drive safely and how to follow the rules. Reduced EDT Driving Lessons: What are the conditions?

There is an application form available on the RSA website for foreign license holders who wish to receive reduced essential driver training.

How does a letter of entitlement to reduced EDT work?
An NDLS letter of entitlement contains a driver’s record with details of the driver’s name, address, date of birth, driver’s number, expiration date, and a class of license.
A foreign license presented to the NDLS center is expired. A foreign license is lost or stolen. A foreign license may not have a start date for one or more of its categories. Originals of the letter of entitlement are required. Fax or email copies are not acceptable. Candidates can expect to receive original documentation over time.
How does a learner's permit work?
A valid learner permit will be issued to you if you successfully complete the application. You can drive with some restrictions with a learner permit. To pass a driving practical test, you must have enough practice to become responsible and safe.
It is not necessary to wait six months before taking a driving test. However, you must complete the Reduced EDT program in order to familiarize yourself with Irish driving rules and regulations.
After that, you will need to find a reputable driver training center. This is because they will be able to teach you the Reduced EDT in a way that will help you pass the driving test the first time.

What is the maximum number of Reduced EDT lessons you can have each week?
We recommend, however, that you analyze your driving level during the first lesson. Our recommendation, however, is to take 2-hour lessons. A system of training will be suggested to you based on your availability and the times at which you can take our lessons based on that level.
In the first lesson on Reduced EDT, what do you do?
This logbook contains a lesson plan for each session of the reduced EDT course. Your instructor will record your progress, sign it, and upload it to the RSA ADI portal at the end of the course.

The RSA developed this course based on its learner driver training syllabus. It covers all of the necessary skills and behaviours that a competent driver must demonstrate at all times.

When I complete my six reduced EDT lessons, what happens?
It’s advisable to apply to the nearest test center as soon as possible, but in the meantime, you should practice on different types of roads and traffic conditions.
